OVERVIEW: The Tp 612 is a heavyweight, surface-launched, wire-guided torpedo developed by Sweden in 1976 for anti-ship use. It features high-speed HTP propulsion and mid-course wire guidance.

DETAILS: “Tp” stands for Torped. The Tp 612 is a surface-launch variant of the submarine-launched Tp 611/611 series, deployed aboard Swedish Halland-class destroyers starting in 1976 . It retains a 533 mm diameter, HTP/ethanol piston engine capable of over 50 kn, and includes a 250 kg warhead with both proximity and contact fuzes. The torpedo uses wire guidance for mid-course target direction and transitions to active/passive acoustic or gyroscopic steering in the terminal phase . It leverages the same swim-out launch technology, enabling quiet, submarine-style deployment from destroyer tubes.

TYPE: Heavyweight Wire-Guided Anti-Ship Torpedo (Surface-Launched Variant)

FUNCTION: Launched from 533 mm tubes aboard surface ships, the Tp 612 initially travels under wire control for mid-course corrections. It then switches to terminal homing, using acoustic seekers or preset gyroscopic guidance to engage enemy vessels at high speed.
